Punching Up: Punk Poetry Night

May 5 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

You can’t be punk if you’re sexist, ableist, homophoic, racist or transphobic.

To make a stand against people who claim to be punks, this is a celebration of sharp, raw, beautiful and urgent punk poetry.

Profits and extra donations towards the gig will go towards Trans Pride Leeds, in solidarity with Trans people across Leeds and beyond.

Featuring:

Bridget Hart (they/them) is a queer writer, performer and producer living in Bristol. They are a poetry editor and mentor as well as a publisher and proud bar gremlin. Bridget has performed at a variety of events including Manchester Punk Festival, Shambala, Boomtown Fair, Audacious Women Festival, and probably your back garden circa 2011-16. Their second collection Chewing Gum is a queer retelling of characters from Grease and Grease 2 and is out now with Small Press Books.

AJ McKenna (she/her) has performed poems while stripping, handcuffing herself to a microphone stand and having dry rice thrown at her in an attempt to understand the true meaning of love, though not, as yet, all at the same time. She is the author of A Lady of a Certain Rage, names and songs of women, Incidents of Trespass and, most recently, England is the Enemy, and podcasts extremely sporadically at Apocalypse Follies.

Crow (they/them) is a disabled nonbinary queer published poet and slam champion whose work focuses on mental health, grief, politics and the power of cuddles. Creator of Sad Poets Doorstep Club, founder of the UK Trans & Nonbinary Poets Network and reigning Stanza Slam champion, their debut collection ‘i am a thing of rough edges’ is out with Whisky and Beards.

Plus OPEN MIC. Sign up on the door.
