STATE CHAMPION //TROPICAL TRASH //AMON ACID
November 7 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm£5
Very proud to present these ramshackle country/indie/punk heart-breakers on their first trip to the UK. Their formula of elegant melodies and thoughtful lyrics is a tried and tested one but the twist here is that the songwriting is truly exceptional. Think a blend of Will Oldham, Country Teasers and early Wilco.
“If Bob Dylan was funny, if Tom Waits was relevant, Ryan might not be peerless at what he does best, which is writing large gregarious circles around his pitiful colleagues in the field.” – David Berman
Nonchalant no-brow noise punks Tropical Trash are all in State Champion’s current touring incarnation so I’ve managed to talk them into doing a set of their own. These guys blew the roof off last time they played and I’m excited to have them back! They specialise in a concise, sneering Hot Snakes/Pissed Jeans-esque churn, punctuated with bludgeoning repeato grooves and free noise excursions.
Second gig ever for this local trio! Hypno-psych with dub and goth and shoegaze overtones, glacial drum machine grooves and serpentine Eastern scale noodlings, like the KVB and Dead Can Dance getting floaty with Acid Mothers Temple in an opium den.
