YAY MARIA / Fig by Four / MayShe-MayShe

April 15 @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Bomb the Twist is back! This time collaborating with Come Play With Me to bring you a spring-awakening of a night, platforming some of our favourite artists. Part of the Come Platform Me Series!
>> Derby-based YAY MARIA! (she/her) is a queer & trans musical artist, illustrator and narrative weaver. Maria says, “If I can make one outsider feel better about themselves then YAYAY!!”
Her album ‘OYEZ!’ came out in September on Year of Glad records and is easily one of our most listened to releases from the latter half of 2021. We absolutely love YAY MARIA and her previous work as Grawl!x and guarantee you’ll fall head-over-heels too. Check out ‘Template’, a gorgeously heartwarming technicolour earworm.
>> Fig by Four is multi-instrumentalist Sarah Statham (she/her), bringing her four-piece sound to Wharf Chambers for the project’s second full band outing. Fig by Four weaves ethereal stories of connection, memory and loss into her off-kilter alternative rock melodramas.
Her debut collection of songs, encapsulated in an as-yet-unreleased album, swings between the viscerally immediate and the sweepingly cinematic.
>> Born in York, raised in the Netherlands, Mayshe-Mayshe (she/her) is the solo project of Yorkshire artist Alice Rowan. Having established herself in Leeds as a core component of Living Body, she’s become a good friend of ours at Bomb the Twist. Alice’s ethereal music blends dreamy art-pop with rich storytelling, skittering percussion and infectious melodies.
Her deceptively simple but captivating and alluring songwriting – at once universal and deeply personal – incorporates choral vocals, vintage synths and the occasional hairdryer.
Tickets are £5 advance/£6 on the door.
Nobody turned away due to lack of funds (dm us in advance to arrange where possible)
Wharf Chambers is a wheelchair-accessible venue with a single disabled toilet cubicle and low area at the bar for ordering drinks and communicating with staff.
Wharf Chambers strives to be a Safer Space. More info here: https://www.wharfchambers.org/safer-spaces/

“A note to attendees on COVID measures:

Please bring a face covering with you if you have one. Especially given that LFTs are no longer freely available, the wearing of masks will be encouraged inside. We ask that everyone respects those who are taking visible COVID precautions, whether at the gig or elsewhere around the venue. If you do have access to lateral flow tests please take one before coming down. We want to do our best in managing what is still a major health issue affecting us all in some way.

Acting with awareness for others will only help in creating a positive shared atmosphere. We’ve had our own personal encounters with the virus lately and want to try and mitigate the consequences of the event causing disruption for anyone. Even if you’re a bit past masks by now, we ask that you put one in your pocket just in case. There will also be some on the door. If you’re feeling unwell please stay at home, tune into the live stream at www.twitch.com/wharfyc and rest up.
